Despite Injury, Packers’ Rodgers Hopes to Play in Showdown With Lions

Aaron Rodgers said he thought he would be ready for the Green Bay Packers’ home showdown with the Detroit Lions for the N.F.C. North title on Sunday.

Rodgers strained his left calf in the Packers’ win over Tampa Bay. Going into that game, he was already fighting an illness.

Coach Mike McCarthy said Rodgers was feeling better. Rodgers participated in Tuesday’s light team workout.

McCarthy has not expressed a lot of concern about Rodgers’s health, although the strained calf limited Rodgers’s mobility against the Buccaneers.

McCarthy said he was confident that Rodgers would not be limited in the game plan against the Lions’ defense.

The Packers worked out Tuesday, normally a day off, so they could take Christmas Day off.

Rodgers hoped that free time later in the week would aid in the healing process.
