QB – Robert Griffin III, Washington Redskins

(Geoff Burke, USA TODAY Sports)

What happened: Griffin faced staunch competition for this spot, as Colin Kaepernick, Jay Cutler, Nick Foles and Josh McCown all turned in disappointing production off heightened expectations. But no one had a rockier year than the Redskins’ one-time savior, whose problems no longer center on injury questions but basic quarterback mechanics. RG3 stumbled upon almost every way to derail a season: the dislocated ankle that required a six-week recovery, in-fighting with first-year head coach Jay Gruden through the media and a late November benching.

All of those taken together with Griffin’s play when healthy put Washington’s future at quarterback in doubt. The Redskins might not have a better option next year, but it’s easy to see why Gruden isn’t sold on the signal-caller he inherited. RG3’s footwork was atrocious throughout 2014, and he didn’t show a consistent ability to make standard decisions from the pocket. Gruden will have to revisit his relationship with RG3 if this partnership is going to thrive next year, but he’ll have plenty more in his quarterback to repair.
