Blake Griffin’s Out, and Clippers Are Crushed by the Thunder


Kevin Durant scored 29 points for the Thunder, who moved above .500.

The Los Angeles Clippers announced before their game at Oklahoma City on Sunday that the All-Star forward Blake Griffin would be out indefinitely because of a staph infection in his right elbow. Without him, the Clippers fell to their most lopsided defeat of the season, a 131-108 loss to the Thunder.

Griffin is set to have surgery Monday in Los Angeles and will be re-evaluated after the All-Star break.

“We’re depleted right now, but no one feels sorry for us,” Clippers Coach Doc Rivers said. “I don’t feel sorry for us.”

Kevin Durant scored 29 points for the Thunder, who moved above .500.

It was announced that Adam Silver, the N.B.A. commissioner, had chosen Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard to replace Griffin on the Western Conference’s All-Star team.

TRAIL BLAZERS 109, ROCKETS 98 LaMarcus Aldridge scored 24 points, and Damian Lillard had 23 to help Portland hold off host Houston. James Harden had 45 points for the Rockets.

CAVALIERS 120, LAKERS 105 Kevin Love scored a season-high 32 points, LeBron James came close to a triple-double, and host Cleveland topped Los Angeles. James had 22 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists in three quarters.

BULLS 98, MAGIC 97 Pau Gasol dunked the rebound of Derrick Rose’s missed layup with 9.4 seconds left, and Chicago rallied for a road win over Orlando.

KINGS 85, SUNS 83 DeMarcus Cousins made a jumper at the buzzer and finished with 28 points, leading Sacramento to a home win over Phoenix.

PACERS 103, HORNETS 102 George Hill’s layup with 4.9 seconds left lifted visiting Indiana over Charlotte.

T’WOLVES 112, PISTONS 101 Nikola Pekovic scored 29 points to lead Minnesota past host Detroit. Kevin Martin added 24 points for the Timberwolves.
