Are the unbeaten Cardinals in control of the NFC West? Lindsay H. Jones, USA TODAY Sports

GLENDALE, Ariz. — For now, the balance of power in the NFC West has shifted to the desert.

The Arizona Cardinals, after a 23-14 win Sunday and a thunderous second-half rally against the San Francisco 49ers, have made a statement that this year, they won't be the NFC West team left behind.

This is a team that always believed it could win with its defense, but now it's a group that is gaining confidence in its new-look receiving corps — with rookie John Brown replacing veteran Larry Fitzgerald as the touchdown target — and is winning despite having starting quarterback Carson Palmer sidelined with a nerve issue in his right shoulder.

"We knew how good we were already, we knew we could beat this team if we played our game. So I don't think it's necessarily a confidence booster, it's just reassurance that we are who we are, that we are as good as we think we are," Arizona defensive end Calais Campbell told USA TODAY Sports.
