.It isn't as if Florida has completely vanished from the basketball map since winning the second of back-to-back NCAA titles in 2007. Nevertheless, it has taken the Gators that long to regain the top ranking in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.
Florida, which has won 19 in a row, received 24 of 32 first-place votes this week to replace Syracuse at the top. The Gators last held the No. 1 position in the regular season in the poll of Feb. 12, 2007. They lost at Vanderbilt that week and thus began their run through the NCAA tournament with the No. 3 ranking. Oh, by the way, the Gators are at Vandy on Tuesday night.
