“There are people who are born as heavy sweaters,” said Maharam. “And people who are born as light sweaters. There are people who are born when they sweat they sweat a lot of electrolytes. And there are people who sweat less electrolytes. So if he cramps up a lot he needs to be aware of that and deal with it nutritionally.”

The problem, said Schriner is it’s often hard to catch up on re-hydrating once an athlete is dehydrated.

In a press conference on Friday afternoon James insisted he hydrated to the point that his stomach felt uncomfortable.

“My body just decides to shut down,” he said.
