Week 1 showed how quickly fortunes change in the NFL By MAGGIE HENDRICKS

(Brad Barr-USA TODAY Sports)

New England had its 10-game winning streak against Miami snapped, while Atlanta beat the Saints for the first time since 2012. The Houston Texans imploded in 2013, but found their footing quickly in a dominant win over Washington.

It’s only Week 1, but one of NFL’s lasting truisms has already been proven. Last year doesn’t mean anything in predicting the outcome of this season.

The Patriots’ dynasty has lasted for most of this century, but there are now plenty of reasons for the Patriots to worry. Playing without Logan Mankins, the longtime Patriots lineman who was traded to Tampa Bay just before the season started, Brady was sacked four times. With 134 yards, Miami’s Knowshon Moreno easily outran the entire Patriots’ rushing offense. New England combined for 89 yards.

New England had a 10-point lead at the half, but had no answer as Miami scored 23 points in the second half. With the Patriots’ once-fearsome offense stifled, and their defense unable to stop the run, the Dolphins easily won the important AFC East match-up.
