Broncos' Wes Welker suspended four games for taking amphetamine

2014-09-02-wes-welker

Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker has been suspended for the first four games of the regular season after testing positive for an amphetamine, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the NFL has not yet announced the suspension.

Welker has already appealed the penalty, the person said, but it was rejected by the league. The suspension will begin immediately.

Welker will be eligible to return to the Broncos, who have a bye in Week 4, for their Week 6 game at the New York Jets.
