J.J. Watt is the best player in the NFL and it's not particularly close

(AP)
The Indianapolis Colts should have blown out the Houston Texans on Thursday night. After finishing the first quarter 24-0, the rout was inescapably on. The game was over before the half, it seemed. Then J.J. Watt intervened.

The Texans found their way back into the game against all expectations, and pulled within five points of the Colts with an early fourth quarter touchdown. A touchdown scored by Watt. In the end, it wasn’t enough. When you spot Andrew Luck a 24-point lead, he’s not going to give it up. Despite the slow start and the eventual 33-28 loss, Watt proved once again that he is unequivocally the best player in the NFL.

Watt has three touchdowns this season – the entire Oakland Raiders team has six. Of those three touchdowns he has scored, two have been on defense, which means that Watt has scored more defensive touchdowns this season than 28 NFL teams.

There are great players on other teams, but none of those players are the team. There isn’t a single player more dominant. Take nothing away from guys named Manning, Brees, or Rodgers. If any of those players were to go down, their teams would be in dire straits. But all of those teams have a supporting cast strong enough to muddle through.
