Rough rehab start doesn't deter Cliff Lee's return to Phillies

ATLANTA – A rugged final rehab start did nothing to curtail Cliff Lee's confidence for his return to the Philadelphia Phillies' rotation Monday at Citizens Bank Park against the San Francisco Giants.

Lee was roughed up Monday in his third rehab outing at Class A Clearwater, which both he and manager Ryne Sandberg shrugged off Friday night before the Phillies began a three-game series against the Braves at Turner Field.

"There was no rhyme or reason for anything," said Lee, who allowed eight runs, though just three were earned, and eight hits over 42/3innings. "They swung the bat and hit a lot of balls."

More importantly, he added, "I felt fine and I'm ready to go."

Lee's three rehab outings at Clearwater yielded a 5.06 ERA in 102/3 innings. He allowed 13 hits, struck out eight and walked two.
