TAMPA, Fla. — Derek Jeter walked to home plate in the first inning Thursday and, before looking out to the mound, said hello to the Pittsburgh Pirates’ new catcher, Chris Stewart, his teammate on the Yankees the last two seasons.
He asked about Stewart’s family, and then Stewart asked Jeter, playing in his first spring training game of the year, the question that many people had been asking him for weeks, months and, really, more than a year.
How did he feel?

“Everything is really good,” Jeter told Stewart, who said he was glad to hear it.
