ASHBURN, Va. — Robert Griffin III said Wednesday that he has been advised not to talk about the Washington pro football club's embattled team name. The star quarterback did not say who advised him to stay mum.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said it wasn't the league. Team spokesman Tony Wylie said it wasn't the team.

Griffin made the remark during a teleconference with the Detroit news media before practice. Then, after practice, he was asked about it again.

"Me and all these players in here, we're not the authority to speak on that issue," Griffin said. "We can't tell you anything from that standpoint because we have no authority to talk about that. Not a team-directed thing or anything. We just, I mean, I don't know what to say. I'm not a Native American, so I don't know."
